It’s that time of the year again! The NFL Playoffs are upon us and the best teams are rising to the occasion to compete on the national stage to see who will advance to play in the Super Bowl.
Take Challenge to Achieve Victory
During my time in the National Football League I learned very early on that each week represented a new assignment, a new challenge or a new competitor that required extensive research in order to understand their tendencies or weaknesses. One thing was for sure…you had to have the right game plan and tools for that week’s opponent in order to achieve victory.
Right Tools for the Task
In organizations today, you also need to have the right tools for the task of leading others to exceptional productivity or achieving corporate goals! In professional sports, being equipped to handle the task at hand was based upon extensive research and then putting together the correct gameplan to neutralize your opponent. I offer to you today that in business, extensive research, and creating strategy with specific objectives yields your targeted goals.
Assessing Your Progress along the Way
You may be asking, how can you make sure that you have the right tools for the required task or challenge? One key component to make sure that you have the right tools for your task, is the assessment of your progress along the way. During a recent conversation with a HR director of a global engineering firm, she shared with me how important it is to assess your follower’s progress at multiple points in time rather than once a calendar year.
You see…when you frequently assess the tools and the learning taking place, you not only gather proof of using the right tools, but you eliminate many of the potential negative performance surprises along the way.
How are you determining if you have the right tools in your performance toolbox?
