How To Be A Leader Now And For Generations to Come: Special Videocast

Leadership will always require that we are flexible in our approach. Not harsh, not timid, not laissez-faire, but flexible. Research suggests that it’s through that flexibility that we garner the greatest buy-in, effort and ultimately productivity from our followers.

Leaders Must Be Flexible

Recently, I appeared on the hit show “Leadership Strike Group” with U.S. Naval Officer Tim Paul where his line of questioning was clearly focused on providing the listening audience (You) with the relevant tools that we need to remain competitive in not only business, but in life. All paths to success begin with a leader’s ability to be flexible in his or her approach. You will need to watch the studio interview for the full gist and power, but I wanted to summarize three key takeaways from my perspective. I’m sure that you will have your own as you engage the content.

The Spectre of Our Own Baggage

If we don’t do the work to overcome our own blind spots, we will be limited in our ability to lead others fully. Now, I am not saying that you cannot serve as a leader. I’m saying that to achieve maximum follower effectiveness and reach the full capabilities of those you are responsible for, it will be difficult when you are not committed to your own growth.

 Empathy Wins Every Time

Leaders who lack empathy leave broken, unmotivated followers in their wake. Why? Because we are all human beings, capable of greatness or incredible lows that require a leader’s deft touch and awareness to tap into the mindset of their followers. Lack this emotion and it will be tough to bridge the gap of trust and understanding with your teams.

Every Generation Must Innovate to Survive

Due to the rising competition from foreign countries and global business initiatives, the United States must remain at the forefront of science and technology. If we want to keep pace with our rivals in business, each generation needs to answer the call and innovate. This is a non-negotiable that is required in order to remain relevant and keep up the forward movement of our country.

Point of Clarity Quote:

“Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable.”

-William Pollard
