This Week’s Focus Point:
The young man had been in and out of juvenile detention facilities since I had known him. Our conversation that day centered around his upcoming court date that dealt with drug possession with the intent to distribute. Due to the large amount he had in his possession, he was going to receive jail time. For whatever reason, this young man had gotten into his head that he had no value other than what the culture of the street provided for him. You see, he had gotten out of touch with the greatness that is inside of each one of us. Much like the young man, we all have the capacity to leave the opportunity for greatness on the table, or unrealized because of our own self-imposed limitations.
Permit Yourself to Achieve Greatness
As a leader, it is time for you to break free and give yourself permission to achieve greatness! You and your followers, colleagues, and friends will be better for it. Let me share with you four proven practices that will start you on the path to greatness for yourself and for others.
Next Step on Your Path to Greatness
Harnessing Greatness requires “Focus” or the ability to pour yourself fully into whatever you seek to accomplish while limiting distractions. The next step on your path to Greatness is “Consistency” or the coveted ability to remain engaged and habitually do what others will not or cannot do on a daily basis.
The Third Practice for Greatness
The third practice for Greatness is “Resilience” or the uncanny abity to absorb life’s challenges and use them as fuel for overcoming adversity and negative situations. The last but very crucial aspect of achieving Greatness is showing “Compassion” first for yourself and then for others. Your ability to forgive yourself for past failures and unrealized expectations opens the door for you to step into Greatness and move beyond limiting thoughts and beliefs. Your ability to show this compassion to your followers will open the door for them as well.
In what ways are you giving yourself permission to achieve greatness today?
