Dr. Carthen is a longtime proponent of civic engagement, social justice and youth advocacy. For that reason, he formed his foundation, The Leaders of Tomorrow Initiative, which aims to educate underprivileged youth about leadership, character and civic responsibilities.
Bind Leadership and Mentoring Program
In 2008, he started a mentoring project that uses his own curriculum for The T.I.E.S. that Bind Leadership and Mentoring Program™ to increase leadership capacities, school engagement and reading skills among high school and college students.
Annual Golf Classic
In addition, because of his deep and abiding value for education he understands that not everyone can afford the opportunity to attend an institution of higher learning. For that reason, each year he hosts an annual Golf Classic to provide scholarship funds for at-risk or disadvantaged youth. Going into it’s fourth year, The Leaders of Tomorrow Initiative™ is celebrating the graduation of two more students because of the care and support of those who believe in the vision of helping the less fortunate.
To date we have provided scholarships to 16 students and will graduate two more seniors this year!
